Registering puts your name and your trade on the country’s own list of unorganised workers, and gives you a number that does not expire. It is free, and it takes minutes.

What you get
- A Universal Account Number (UAN) and an e-Shram card, valid for life. It does not need renewing.
- Accident cover under Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana — ₹2 lakh for accidental death or permanent disability, ₹1 lakh for partial disability.
- Your trade on record. When a scheme or a relief payment is announced for workers in your trade, this register is where the names are taken from.
Who it is for
- Any unorganised worker aged 16 to 59 — daily-wage labour, construction, domestic work, driving, street vending, and every trade listed on this platform.
- Not for members of EPFO or ESIC, and not for income-tax payers.
What to take with you
- Aadhaar card
- The mobile number linked to your Aadhaar — the OTP goes there and there is no way around it
- A bank account number and IFSC
How to check and apply
- 1Register free at eshram.gov.in, or at any Common Service Centre (CSC) if the form is easier done with somebody sitting beside you.
- 2If your mobile number is not linked to your Aadhaar, that is the first job — the registration cannot be completed without it. Any Aadhaar centre will do it.
- 3Helpline 14434 for anything that goes wrong.
What it is not
Registering is not a payment. The card by itself does not put money in your hand — it puts you on the list that payments and schemes are drawn from.
